J Dilla 'Rebirth of Detroit' Project: Official Trailer, First Single

This week, the Yancey Music Group (headed up by Maureen Yancey, mother of the late James Yancey), revealed its official plans for the release of The Rebirth of Detroit, an album comprised of previously-unreleased works by the legendary rapper and producer, J Dilla.

“This will bring together artists that have drifted away from one another and haven’t been able to work with each other lately,” the elder Yancy said about the project. “It’s a healing process for the city. For individuals, it’s going to bring back the love and the passion for the music and for what hip-hop has to offer.”

The new release is being billed as “genre-bending”, and will feature appearances from a slew of artists with ties to Dilla’s hometown of Detroit. Artists tapped for the album include Amp Fiddler, Illa J, Frank Nitt, Chuck English of The Cool Kids, Monica Blaire, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, and more.

The Rebirth of Detroitis slated for release on June 12. More information is available on OfficialJDilla.com.
